Port Moresby Governor Parkop pledges ‘normalcy’ during strike day

Papua New Guinea’s National Capital District governor has pledged it will be business as usual in the strike day today whole transport officials said PMVs would be running as usual.

Governor Powes Parkop called for calm and said many political demands were being made – “some realistic and some not realistic”, EMTV News reported last night.

He said the city would strive to maintain “normalcy” today, but police predicted there would be an extra busy day.

There has been unrest at the national University of Papua New Guinea for almost three weeks as students have demanded that Prime Minister Peter O’Neill steps down and allows the investigation into corruption allegations to go ahead.
