AsiaPacificReport.nz is a joint venture between Multimedia Investments Ltd (Milnz.co.nz) and David Robie Publishing Ltd (Café Pacific – cafepacific.blogspot.com )

In the past five years the content was provided by postgraduate student journalists on the PMC’s postgraduate Asia-Pacific Journalism Studies course in the School of Communication Studies at Auckland University of Technology with a focus on issues such as climate change, human rights, social justice and sustainable business. However, since 19 December 2020 after the closure of the Asia-Pacific course the website is focusing on a role as a “critical conscience of society” drawing on reports around the region from journalists, student journalists and academics. Their reports are supplemented by articles from the University of the South Pacific’s regional journalism programme and Wansolwara newspaper; University of Santo Tomas journalism programme in the Philippines; and other contributors.

It is a non-profit publication operating under a Creative Commons 4.0 licence.

Objectives of the website:

  • An independent Asia-Pacific voice telling the untold stories
  • An educational media resource boosting the quality of regional reporting
  • Addressing justice for the marginalised
  • Providing Asia-Pacific journalism experience for students and graduates
