“Melanesian Way” as coined by Bernard Narakobi is dead. It has been dead for a long time. What we now have is ‘Melanesian Money, Power, and Women’. Melanesian way is still practised only by villagers who practice traditional gift exchange and reciprocity. Capitalist bourgeois Melanesian MEN sign their lives and the lives of their wives, children, and ancestors to international highest bidders. Their (Melanesian modern big men) material capital is not acquired through free market business enterprise, but rather through the purchase and sale of votes, the sale of collective ancestral lands, and the sale of West Papua blood. Once they have money, they have power, and once they have power, they have women. Money talks, bullshit walks. Disgusting.
